Types of ALS
There are many types of ALS. The most probable version of ALS that someone can get is sporadic (90-95%). Another version of ALS is Familial. This one is most commonly seen through families, with 5-10% chance in cases of ALS. The last version of ALS is Guamanian. This form of ALS is very high in Guam during the 1950’s. Some causes are gene mutation, chemical imbalance, and protein mishandling.
Symptoms of ALS
With this disease there are symptoms and warning signs. Some of the warning signs are difficulty walking, tripping/falling, and weakness in the legs, feet, or ankles. Other symptoms could be difficulty keeping your head up or having a good posture
Treatment of ALS
There are only a few treatments for this disease. The one drug has been approved by the Drug and Food Administration is Riluzole (Rilutek). Besides this drug, there is speech and physical therapy that could also help. ALS has many effects on the body like speaking, breathing, and eating problems,as well as dementia.
Cure for ALS
There is no cure for ALS. There is no prevention, but you can reduce your risks by not smoking and limit toxin exposure.
